I usually post on Tuesday, but I wanted to get a special Tesla Tip out today. This week I bring you the first 2020 update & Tesla theater. So let’s get moving!!
First 2020 Software Update
Tesla last week released its first update of the year (2020.4) to the Chinese fleet. Reddit user u/00o0o0 posted screenshots of the release notes on Reddit. There were two games, Tesla Theater, Air Quality Index and weather, map improvements, Tesla Service Center account on WeChat & Smart Summons.
The games are different from what we have in the US. These are likely popular Chinese games. Not sure if they have the games that we have in the US. But it’s great to see games added to the Chinese fleet!
Air Quality Index (AQI) added to the weather is a big one that caught my eye. When I went to Delhi in December 2017, I used AQI to determine if I should use a mask or not. In highly polluted areas, it can help you know if the air you are breathing is safe. I hope this update comes to the US. AQI would be helpful in California, especially if there are fires in the surrounding areas.
For those that don’t know, WeChat is a popular social media platform that also handles messaging & mobile payment. It’s a swiss-army knife of mobile applications that extremely popular in China. So it makes sense for Tesla to have a presence on this platform. It makes it easy for Chinese owners to contact Tesla if there are any issues! Check out the Reddit post here!
In the US, 2020.4.1 started rolling out. Unlike China, there’s only one item that came, which is different from China. The new option is Additional Vehicle Information; it just tells information about the configuration of your car. It’s a bit of a lackluster update for the new year, but it’s interesting to know the exact details of what you have in your car!
Another Tesla owner, Reddit user u/TeslaModel11, created a full mode Tesla Theater for all the video streaming apps that haven’t made it yet to Tesla Theater. Currently, right now, there’s only a handful of apps that are supported. Now with this, more apps that support HTML5 video streaming! Check it the Reddit post here!
Tesla Tip of the Week
Another Tesla owner, Reddit user u/TeslaModel11, created a full mode Tesla Theater for all the video streaming apps that haven’t made it yet to Tesla Theater. Currently, right now, there’s only a handful of apps that are natively supported. Now with this site, more apps that support HTML5 video streaming! And it even supports full-screen mode! This site is excellent as it automatically utilizes the YouTube workaround to get the full-screen mode activated! Check it the Reddit post here!
